We are pleased to highlight our Member of the Month for July, Joel!
A member since 2015, Joel can be found most weekday afternoons on the gym floor. As a firefighter for 30 years, being physically fit was a job requirement and that work ethic has stayed with him. He enjoys the camaraderie of his gym family as they genuinely encourage each other’s progress while solving the world’s problems. Then sit for a spell in the spa and sauna to finish off his day perfectly. Although his preferred consistent workout is using the weight machines, he can be found taking Holly’s outstanding cycle classes on rainy days.
Outside the gym, Joel is an avid road cyclist. Grateful for our beautiful Sonoma weather and breathtaking bike routes, he tallies up at least a couple of hundred miles each week. At the beginning of June he rode with a group of retired Firefighters from Sausalito to Santa Monica! A seven day ride to raise money for cancer aid for Firefighters and their families. He also is a member of Velo Med Cyclists who provide medical services on sponsored bike events. Awe-inspiring.
When not pedaling, Joel enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, Hendrix and Jagger. Who, Joel likes to point out, are both representing the USA for World Championship BMX racing in Australia this summer. ( Just a little proud! ) Joel and his wife of 46 years, Sue, love planning travels which usually means cycling somewhere new in the world. Surprise! They are not showing signs of slowing down.
