We’re happy to highlight our April Member of the Month, Teela! Teela has been a member of the club for almost 15 years. She especially enjoys swimming and socializing, describing the pool as her regular go-to.
“I hope to maintain a fit quality of life so I can enjoy my four young grandsons and keep up with them! I’d much rather exercise than spend my time going to doctor’s appointments,” she says.
Teela started swimming about 25 years ago after a very serious back injury. At the time, her neurosurgeon told her she might never walk normally again. After the surgery, he recommended swimming to ensure a good recovery. Other exercises that Teela enjoys include walking, cycling, and when she can’t get outdoors because of weather, she does push-ups.
Outside of the club, Teela has a background in Horticulture so she spends a lot of time in the garden. Her love of nature inspires her to walk or hike and take time to notice nature’s miracles. She also likes to sew, she volunteers for a couple of local organizations and spends her time with a 90-year-old woman who has no family.
Teela is a third generation Petaluman. Her grandparents were chicken farmers and had a hatchery on Bodega Ave from 1906 – World War 2
“It’s true that exercise and social connections lead to a happier and healthier life. I’ve made lots of nice, new friends at the club during my years here. Plus, the staff members always greet me by name, with a smile and make me feel very welcomed. From the front desk, to housekeeping, everyone makes sure that my time at Active is truly my Happy Hour!”
Way to go, Teela!
