Mark’s Story:
“Growing up, I was always physically active and was involved in exercise and playing sports. For the past 25 years, I have belonged to many different fitness clubs to help me stay fit and healthy.
Fifteen years ago, at the age of 37, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and my focus on fitness changed. After treatment and recovery, I got back into fitness with more of a focus on cardiovascular and functional training activities versus traditional strength training. As a result, I gravitated to classes that helped raise my heart rate and kept me moving, without running too much.
I joined Active at Reed’s Crossing when it opened in 2022 and I tried a variety of classes. I found all the staff to be very engaging and encouraging. I really enjoyed Victoria’s HIIT Express class and attend the classes whenever I can fit them into my schedule. I found the class to provide me with my desired cardiovascular objectives as well as providing body weight and core exercises. I enjoy that her class is challenging for any fitness level as Victoria always provides options for each of the exercises. I try to push myself outside of my comfort zone by trying the different training level options she provides. Although I don’t like running, I don’t mind when Victoria adds those exercises into the class.
In addition to the HIIT Express class, I have been involved in strength classes, functional fitness classes, as well as indoor cycling, rowing and doing a hike on the treadmill.
I’m glad to say that my cancer has remained in remission, and it is something I don’t worry about anymore. Being physically active is a staple in my life and is part of my daily process. It will be something I always do. I look forward to expanding my horizons and trying some Pilates and Yoga classes to help me continue to achieve my fitness and health goals.“
