I am not a stereotypical personal trainer because of my background in injury prevention and rehabilitation. I believe my role is to guide you toward YOUR goal in the most effective, safe and fun way. I believe exercise is medicine. Even moderate exercise is beneficial for your health and well-being. I am your training wheel. Train with me until you can ‘ride’ on your own!

Deb Best

Certified Fitness Specialist

Deb brings 25 years of experience in the health and wellness industry.  Originally from Colorado, Deb moved to Portland to lead corporate wellness programs and eventually joined a cancer research team studying the effects of exercise during patient treatment and recovery. A certified yoga instructor since 2001, Deb believes in an integrative approach to exercise, building strength, improving flexibility, and increasing energy in order to tap into one’s inner athlete. 

Deb enjoys adventuring with her family, long walks with her dog, and exploring her creative self cooking for family and friends. She has a daily pen/ink/pencil drawing practice which she shares with other art students all over the world.

Mike Kachnik

Mike Kachnik

Certified Fitness Specialist

Mike comes to AWC Kruse Woods with more than a decade of experience in fitness, from personal training and boot camps, to physiological testing and healthy lifestyle coaching. Mike believes in building solid foundational movement patterns before earning your way into complex exercises and heavier lifts. “A solid training program does not have to be complicated. I help my clients master the basics and then progressively add load to build strength consistent with their goals.”

Mike began his career in 2014 providing health and wellness coaching services. He most recently was a Master Trainer at LA Fitness, and has been a Personal Trainer at Fitness Together and MUV Fitness. Mike lives in Beaverton with his partner and two ferrets, and enjoys working out, playing sports, reading, and writing in his spare time.

There is a saying, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the next best time is today.” Ted came to personal training later in life, having been a university teacher and then a stay-at-home dad. He has since earned certifications from NASM in Personal Training, Corrective Exercise, and Senior Fitness. Ted believes that health and fitness are built on a foundation of long-term, sustainable habits and behaviors. He views the role of a trainer as a guide to help you find what habits and behaviors work for you so that you can enjoy the greatest quality and quantity of life possible.
In his spare time, Ted enjoys training for and participating in triathlons and running events. He also enjoys bike rides, good movies, and exploring the Portland area food carts.
